HAND-MADE IN CORNWALL
After being taught how to crimp pasties by his mum, Giles Williams opened a shop and started selling pasties to the locals in 1999. He then perfected his flaky pastry. Since then our family has grown to a team of 80 people, working across eight stores and seven delivery vans. Our customers tell us we offer the best traditional pasties in the most convenient locations to working people. Our heritage lies in hard-working people from the local community who make, bake, deliver Cornwall’s favourite meal for you to enjoy. Here’s some more about the people behind the pasties.
GILES WILLIAMS
Giles doesn’t like to talk about himself much — he’s a humble, proud Cornishman, born and bred on a farm in Trescowe, near Praa Sands; a farmer’s son and former mechanic.
He will tell you that it’s people, not bosses, that make a business.
LOUISE PARR
You’ll probably come into contact with Lou more times than you realise. You may see her driving a van or manning the till in-store, or you may chat to her through social media, as the voice of the Cornish Oven.
Lou also deals with suppliers and (literally) rolls up her sleeves in the prep room. Starting in 2005, Lou truly is the heart of the operation.
BEHIND THE SCENES
More than 20 local people make your pasties, sausage rolls and sandwiches in our Pool HQ. They get cracking before dawn (5.30am), filling, crimping and preparing the food which fuels your working day.
This is where the magic happens — our secret ingredient is not the contents of our pasties but the people that make them.
IN STORE
Some of our staff have been with us for more than a decade. They are all drawn into the bosom of the Cornish Oven family from the local community. Most have moved around a bit, from the vans to the stores, and back again, so they know what makes our business great — you.
Our staff are the face of the company. We have a wonderful team who don’t just sell pasties, they ask about your day, your holiday, and, in some cases, they’ll have your coffee ready as you walk through the door…just the way you like it.
